From the East
- Take I-70 WEST to EXIT 176
- Go around the 1st traffic circle and back under I-70
- At next traffic circle, go 1/4 way around. Take 1st right onto FRONTAGE ROAD towards Lionshead.
- Take a left on WEST LIONSHEAD CIRCLE approx. 3/4 mi. on the Frontage Road. (It is immediately following the Pedestrian Bridge)
- Follow road as it curves to the left, Antlers is at the bottom of the hill.
From the West
- Take I-70 EAST to EXIT 176
- Take a right off the exit (before the traffic circle) onto SOUTH FRONTAGE ROAD WEST towards Lionshead.
- Take a left on WEST LIONSHEAD CIRCLE from the Frontage Road. (It is immediately following the Pedestrian Bridge)

0800 - Buses from Hotel to intersection of Snowshoe Lane & Main Gore Drive
1530 - Buses pick up at intersection of Snowshoe Lane & Main Gore Drive and return to Antlers

| Description |
Several critically injured parties have been reported in a 150' ravine containing Black Gore Creek.
Exercise will utilize a tyrolean high line rigged across the ravine to raise and lower rescuers, equipment,
and patients. Rescue area contains steep rock walls, waterfalls, and a powerful creek. High run off is expected
at the time of this operation.

backup system (prussik, auto block, etc)- The following will be required for those in/near whitewater. Some of this
equipment will be available but personal gear may be preferable. Wet/dry suit, whitewater helmet, booties, whitewater

Several mountain bikers have been reported missing on Vail Mountain. Last scene point was at top of Vista Bahn chairlift.
Search operation will commence after talking with reporting parties.

Petzl.

| Description |
An injured party has been reported inside of the Fulford Cave in an area call "The room of doom". This is
an area where a vertical raise inside the cave will be required. Environment inside cave may be icy,
rocky, dark, cold, and muddy. Temps inside cave likely to be around 38 degrees. Bring a change of clothing.
You will be wet and muddy at the end of the day.

Friday, June 17
0700 - Register at Antlers, athletes pick up numbers
0800 - Buses depart from Antlers to Horse Mountain Road Parking Area (for athletes)
1000 - Bus departs from Antlers to Adventure Race Finish on 131N (For spectators)
1100 - 1300 Shuttle available from Finish area to BLM campground for Ascent viewing
1400 - Bus departs from Adventure Race finish to Antlers
1500 - Bus departs from Adventure Race finish to Antlers

| Description |
Adventure race consists of 2-3 miles of orienteering/trekking followed by a 250' rappel into Milk Creek. Racers
will hike down Milk Creek to a vertical ascent where racers will have to ascend 200' up a vertical rope. A small
scramble to the top of a high ridge followed by another short trek will bring racers to a highline which will
be preset over Alkali Creek. Racers will traverse the 200' highline and into the finish area.
This event has been designed to be strenuous and test rescuers technical skills. Participants who do
not reach checkpoints by preset times will be disqualified and routed to the finish.

Hike to railroad bridge which will allow you to cross the Eagle River. Make left on opposite side of bridge
and hike down railroad tracks approximately .6 mile to large rock outcropping where ascent will take place.

Teams will spend half their day solving a high angle rescue problem and the other half of the day rotating through
stations where they can use demo equipment from our equipment sponsors and learn new rescue techniques. -

From Vail: Take I-70 to the Minturn exit (#171). Follow Highway 24 south, through the town of Minturn, and
continue a total distance of 14 miles from the interstate until you reach a valley opening. Look for the
first major turnoff on the left side onto a dirt road (702) entering Camp Hale. Follow the road to the
immediate right and at .5 miles from Highway 24 take a left at the "Y" (towards Resolution Rd) and then a right at the next intersection (714).
Climbing wall is approximately 1/2 mile on left.

Take Exit 167 off I-70 at Avon. (7 miles west of Vail.) Go south through Avon's 'round-a-bouts' to
Beaver Creek Ski Resort. The Welcome Gate at the main entrance to Beaver Creek will instruct you on
parking and provide you with a pass for your vehicle. Follow Village Road 2 miles and turn left onto
Avondale Lane just before Beaver Creek Lodge. Follow Avondale Lane about 3 city blocks, the Vilar Center
will be on the right and the Villa Montane parking structure on the left. Once in the Villa Montane parking
structure, take the elevator from "P2" to "M". From Beaver Creek Plaza, take the escalator located south
of the ice rink down to the front entrance of the Vilar Center.

Common June Weather
The weather in the Vail Valley at this time of year is typically warm and sunny with high temperatures in
the 70s. Dark sunglasses and sunscreen are for the high altitude sun. Evenings can be cool and temps
will commonly lower to the mid 40's. Afternoon thunderstorms are common and occur most afternoons. Temperatures
can rapidly drop into the low 50's during these storms and short periods of heavy rain are common. Occasional
storms lasting 2-3 days do occur at this time of year and it is not unheard of to see a little bit of wet snow
at higher elevations. Please come prepared for all types of weather.
